Eric Joyce accused of assault in Commons bar 'had affair with teenage schoolgirl 32 years his junior'

A Labour MP charged with assault in a House of Commons bar brawl has been branded 'unfit to stand' by his own party amid claims he had a two year affair with a teenage researcher. Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont today slammed Eric Joyce after it was alleged he started an inappropriate relationship with Meg Lauder, then 17,  who helped him with his 2010 General Election campaign. In the face of criticism Mr Joyce has today denied romancing sixth former Miss Lauder, now 19, when she worked in his Scottish constituency office in Falkirk. Mr Joyce has according to the Evening Standard said: 'The story is not true and I will be taking legal advice this morning.' The 51-year-old former army major, who is separated from his wife Rosemary, is already suspended by the Labour party.
